The Tailor’s Scissors
40 x 60 cm Oil on Canvas
Edwards is a painter and printmaker from the Vale of Glamorgen, South Wales. Widely exhibited in the UK, she often works with mixed media, combining the three processes of printmaking, painting and drawing. Her work usually originates from observations of natural forms that she sees in her surroundings.
The Tailor’s Scissors is a trompe l’oeil, inspired by a visit to Richard Anderson’s studio, where Edwards discovered the craft and artistry that goes into tailoring.
“I wanted my work to echo traditional skills but with an aspect of abstraction. I used the trompe l’oeil of the frame to give the work an ambiguity, reflecting the use of cloth and skill to produce a refined garment.”
